For many children, there’s nothing more exciting that then end of the school year. No more classes, studying, homework or super early mornings for at least 6 weeks! With all that free time, it’s easy for kids to spend a little bit too much of it in front of the TV or on the laptop in their bedroom. Here at Tutor Doctor, we know how important it is for your kids to be as active as possible and get outside during the holidays. However, encouraging them to put down technology isn’t always easy, which is why we’ve come up with 6 fun ways to get your kids active this summer!
1. Go on an adventure/nature walk as a family
Getting outside as a whole family and going on a long walk with a picnic is bound to be fun and a big adventure for any kid. Make it exciting by creating a tick list of different creatures or wildlife for them to spot. You could even buy a cheap disposable camera and encourage your children to take photos of their favourite things they see or find.
2. Find activity clubs
Activity clubs are an easy way to ensure your child is active on a regular basis throughout the holidays. Have a look in your local area and find out what might be of interest to them. Clubs like trampolining, roller skating, football, tennis, swimming, archery or orienteering are brilliant ways to encourage exercise without your kids really realising they are doing it.
3. Do a charity challenge together
Why not do something different and complete a charity challenge with your children? Not only will it be for a great cause but completing a long charity walk or fun run is a fab way to be active outdoors.
4. Go to the park
Heading down to the park for a couple of hours as a family or with family friends is bound to be heaps of fun for everyone. Play a game of frisbee, rounders’, football or even find some challenging monkey bars and get the kids to give it a go. We guarantee they will be tired out and ready for an early night!
5. Go on a beach holiday
A beach holiday is not only a brilliant summer getaway for the whole family to enjoy but it’s also the easiest way to get the kids active without having to encourage them! As soon as your kids hit the beach, we bet they will be playing games, swimming in the sea and running around making sandcastles and moats. All that running around and the lovely sea air will be doing nothing but good!
6. Have fun in your back garden
Finally, don’t forget to make excellent use of your back garden during the summer and get the kids (and yourself) out there as often as possible! We’re sure there’s some unloved toys like hula hoops, tennis rackets and maybe even a swing ball sat in the shed that are crying out to be used! If the weather is really hot, why not blow up the inflatable paddle pool- you could even have a mini family water fight with some water toys!
