Welcome to Week 11!
This week we will be looking at converting between decimals, percentages and fractions; continue non-Verbal Reasoning from last week; word groups adjectives and nouns; and finding synonyms. Let’s begin!
Maths
Equivalent means equal in value and amount.
Because 25 per cent means 25 out of 100
They are all the same amount, but expressed in different ways.
Look at the picture in the clip below before you click on it.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/zqwnv4j
Remember: when we convert a percentage into a decimal by dividing by 100, they remain equivalent.
When we convert a decimal into a percentage by multiplying by 100, they remain equivalent.
When we convert a fraction into a percentage or a decimal, they all remain equivalent.
There was a lot of information in that clip, so here’s a read version. Read all pages, play the games and finally, do the quiz.

To convert decimals to fractions, you put it over 100. Look at page 3 of the link below.

These games below are relevant to this part of the course.

Now we can look at this clip on converting between different weights, using conversion between decimals, fractions and percentages.

Practice Questions in the style of real 11+ practice questions.
Non-Verbal Reasoning
Now try these much more difficult ones (from this year’s Bucks Sample paper).
English
Here are some interactive lessons on word groups, and some games!

Please note, note all words that end in –ly are adverbs. If it does not describe how or when the action happened, it is not an adverb, it is an adjective or an abstract noun. Look at the following words and try to put each of them in a sentence. Do you see how they only describe the noun?
Eg. It was costly. Describes it (the pronoun).
- Costly, Cowardly
- Deadly
- Elderly
- Friendly
- Ghastly, Ghostly
- Holy
- Likely, Lively, Lonely, Lovely, Lowly
- Manly, Miserly
- Nightly
- Poorly
- Saintly, Shapely, Silly, Sisterly
- Timely
- Ugly, Ungainly, Unruly, Unsightly, Unworldly
- Womanly, Worldly
This is your vocabulary for this week. Learn unfamiliar words, and remember these –ly words are the exception to the rule that words that end in –ly are adverbs.
Yearly, weekly, monthly and daily can be adjectives or adverbs!
