  2. How do I know tutoring will help me?

    Before a tutor is assigned to your student, our Education Consultant will meet with both parents and child to assess the need for a tutor, and where your child is struggling.

  3. What is involved in the in-home consultation?

    We visit with the family to assess the academic situation, as well as, get to know the student a little so that we can ensure a strong match with a great tutor whom they look forward to working with. Many factors impact how students perform in school including missing or weak academic foundations, lack of ability to understand how best to organise homework, the learning style of the child and other outside influences. The consultation helps us understand all of these factors. The Education Consultant will also work the client to establish goals and expectations for the tuition sessions, prior to making a recommendation on an appropriate enrolment.

  4. Do you offer 11+ / Common Entrance assistance?

    Yes, we do offer support for the 11+ / Common Entrance exams.

  5. Do you offer tutoring services for other exams?

    Yes, we offer support for GCSE and A Level exams, as well as university courses and any other subjects for all ages including SATs support.

  6. Do you offer online tutoring?

    We do offer online tutoring when this is the most appropriate method of delivering tuition by the best tutor for your student. This is also a great option for busy students and draws on the vast experience of our worldwide network of over 17,000 tutors.

  7. Is the tutoring one-to-one or with a group?

    Tutor Doctor offers one-to-one learning in your home to best accommodate your individual needs.

  8. Where are the tutoring sessions held?

    The tutoring sessions are held in your home with an adult present, or alternatively at a library or other mutually agreeable public location in your area.

  9. What subjects do you offer tutoring in?

    The tutors we work with offer assistance in a variety of subjects. Our most in-demand subjects are Maths, English, Exam Preparation, Sciences and Languages, and more.

  10. Is there drop-in tutoring?

    We do not offer drop-in tutoring as all of the tutoring is conducted in the privacy of the student’s home or preferred location.

  11. Who are the tutors?

    The team of tutors we work with come from a variety of backgrounds, including former and current teachers, professionals from a wide variety of disciplines, and others who may have specific expertise in the subject area. The two things they all have in common are that they are experts in their respective academic subjects and they are passionate about helping student’s succeed.

  12. Do tutors work with the school or teachers?

    Yes, with your permission, the tutors on your team will reach out to the student’s teachers to increase communication and understand the requirements of the subject. Often they also provide insight into the child’s learning challenges or areas where the student can get ahead in the subject. Across the country we work directly with schools providing focused one to one tuition to students, very often within the school environment.

  13. Are tutors available in other languages besides English?

    Tutors are available in a variety of languages but please contact your local office to determine if a tutor is available for the specific subject required.

  14. Are you flexible with tutoring days and times?

    Yes, the tutors we work with give us their availability before we match with the student. During the consultation, the education consultant will discuss scheduling constraints and work with the family to determine the best schedule for the sessions.

  15. How much does your service cost?

    At the local level, price is based on age of student, subject matter and any special requirements which may be requested by the family. Due to the flexibility families enjoy in how and when they may use tutoring hours, we provide discounts on packages of hours to accommodate the needs of the family.

  16. Do you offer payments plans or financing?

    We do offer payment plans that last the duration of the tutoring timeframe. For example, if tutoring is agreed for 3 months you can make payments during those 3 months.

  17. As a student, what can I expect from my tutoring sessions?

    The tutor will come to your home to work with you closely on understanding the subject where you need assistance. This time can be used to ensure you build a foundation of the subject, as well as review homework, build study habits, focus on time management and organisational skills, or get ahead in the subject. The tutors on your team will work with you to develop a programme that works best to fit your needs and learning style.

  18. How do I contact my tutor?

    Once a tutor who is a good fit has been selected, you will be provided their contact information.

  19. What if I need to cancel a session?

    Please call the tutor directly with as much notice as possible and also notify the office. The tutors do require 24 hours notification in order to cancel sessions. You can work together to reschedule the missed appointment for a time that works for both of you.

  20. What if I need reschedule my tutoring session?

    Please call the tutor directly to reschedule a session.

  21. What if I am having problems with my tutor?

    You can contact your local office who would be happy to find an alternative tutor for your needs.

  22. How does someone join the Tutor Doctor team?

    Anyone interested in becoming a tutor can call their local office or submit an application online.

  23. How do I monitor my child’s sessions and results?

    You will be provided access to a platform that the tutor updates after each session. This allows you to understand what they are working on, and the success your child is having.

  24. Can a tutor motivate my child to do homework?

    We focus on teaching the fundamentals of a subject as well as steps to stay motivated while learning. Our X Skills programme is designed to help students in their time management, organisational, and prioritisation skills. Your Education Consultant will explain how this programme works.

  25. How often is tutoring required?

    The frequency of tutoring sessions is determined by the age of the student, the subject, what their current grades are, and their learning style. Our Education Consultant will discuss these details at the consultation.

  26. How long will it take to see improvement in my child’s grades?

    Rate of improvement in grades is affected by many factors including the consistency of the tutoring sessions, how far behind the student might be as tutoring commences, and the commitment of the student themselves. Quite often, early indicators such as increased confidence and a more positive attitude about school present themselves prior to increases in grades.

  27. What are the most important qualities in a tutor?

    At Tutor Doctor, we believe the match of a tutor to student plays a key role in success.   30. Will I get the same tutor every time?

    Yes. From our initial consultation, we choose the most suitable tutor for you based on your schedule. That tutor will be assigned to you for the duration of the enrollment.

  31. How are sessions tailored to the needs of each student?

    The combination of a highly qualified tutor, working with the student’s school curriculum, and in coordination with the parents and teachers allows us to tailor the sessions to the student’s needs.

  32. What if a tutoring option is not listed on your website?

    Please call us. In most locations, our offices maintain a robust roster of tutors, many of whom are skilled in subjects which may not be listed on our website.

  33. Do you provide an assessment?

    During the consultation, the education consultant may provide formal and informal assessments depending on the academic situation.

  34. If I have questions or concerns, whom do I contact?

    If you have a question or concern that cannot be answered by the tutor selected for you, you can call the Educational Consultant or the location owner directly.
