Amrit Rahi-Deogun
Tutor Doctor Greenwich

Amrit Rahi-Deogun

As a mother of two and former maths teacher, Amrit Rahi-Deogun understands the challenges Greenwich families face in supporting their children's education. After graduating from Leeds University with a maths degree, Amrit spent years teaching in local schools and working with youth services across Greenwich and Bexley, supporting young people from all backgrounds. This experience showed her that one-to-one tutoring could transform a child's confidence and academic progress, leading her to launch Tutor Doctor Greenwich in 2017. Since then, she has delivered over 15,000 hours of tutoring to local families, supporting pupils from primary through to A-Levels across all subjects. When families contact Tutor Doctor Greenwich, Amrit or one of her educational consultants visits them at home for a free consultation to understand exactly what support their child needs. She then personally matches them with the right tutor from her carefully vetted team, all of whom are DBS-checked and have accepted safeguarding policies before working with any family.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you match the right tutor to my child in Blackheath?

We start with a free consultation to learn about your child’s goals, personality, learning style and school context in Blackheath. Tutor Doctor Greenwich then hand-picks one of our local tutors who fits both the subject needs and the student’s temperament. We look at year group, recent reports, mock results and any areas where confidence has dipped. If the match is not perfect first time, we will adjust quickly. Families often tell us the relationship is what unlocks progress. One local parent shared that their tutor was patient and engaging and that the feedback helped them plan the next session.

Do your tutors align with what schools in Blackheath, Greenwich and Lewisham are teaching?

Yes. Our local tutors follow your child’s scheme of work and the UK curriculum for their key stage, GCSEs or A-Levels. We review school topics, homework, assessment objectives and exam techniques that teachers use in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the London Borough of Lewisham. For exam years, we teach to your child’s specific specification and past papers, and we adapt to school timelines such as mocks, half-term revision and final exams. This keeps tutoring in Blackheath fully connected to classroom learning.

Where do tutoring sessions take place in Blackheath and how does scheduling work?

You choose in-home or online. Many families in Blackheath Village, Lee, Kidbrooke and Greenwich Park areas prefer in-home for focus and convenience. Online is a great option for busy weeks or when travel is tricky. We set a regular weekly slot that fits around school, sport and music. You can add extra sessions during revision peaks, for example after mock results or before GCSEs and A-Levels. We cover nearby areas too, including Eltham, Charlton, Woolwich, Deptford, New Cross, Catford, Plumstead, Bexleyheath, Sidcup and Welling.

Can you support children with special educational needs or neurodiversity in Blackheath?

Yes. Every child learns differently. Our local tutors tailor the pace, structure and resources to suit attention, working memory and processing needs. We use short, focused tasks, clear routines and multi-sensory methods where helpful. We work with what has already been recommended by school. The aim is to rebuild confidence first, then secure the skills. If you share any reports or strategies that work at home, we will build them into the plan.

What subjects and levels do you cover for students in Blackheath, Greenwich and Lewisham?

We support:
– Primary KS2 English, reading, writing and Maths
– KS3 core subjects to secure strong foundations
– GCSEs across Maths, English, Sciences and popular options
– A-Levels in key subjects with exam technique and topic mastery
– 11+ preparation for families applying to grammar schools in selective areas nearby only. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please ask us.

If you need a specific subject, ask during your free consultation with Tutor Doctor Greenwich.

How do you track and report progress for families in Blackheath?

You receive a session report after every lesson that explains what was covered, how your child responded and what comes next. We set short-term targets and check them regularly. For exam classes we map learning to assessment objectives and past-paper questions. Your local Tutor Doctor Greenwich team will also check in with you to review progress and adjust the plan when needed. Parents tell us these updates make a real difference to keeping everyone aligned.

How are tutors vetted and safeguarded for work with students in Blackheath?

Tutor Doctor Greenwich follows a structured recruitment and safeguarding process. Tutors go through multi-stage interviews, qualification checks and an enhanced DBS check. They complete safeguarding training and follow our code of conduct. You also have ongoing local oversight, with a team you can contact if anything needs to change. We are proud members of The Tutors’ Association, the UK’s professional body for tutoring.

Will one-to-one tutoring make a difference, and how quickly can we see results in Blackheath?

One-to-one attention works. The Education Endowment Foundation reports that one-to-one tutoring typically leads to around five months of additional progress for primary and lower secondary pupils. In practice, families in Blackheath often see early wins in confidence within a few sessions, followed by stronger homework, clearer methods and better scores in topic tests. After Year 11 mocks, targeted sessions can help many students move up one or two marks by focusing on the specific gaps shown in their papers. We will agree realistic goals and a plan so you know what to expect.
