Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai comes from a family of educators—his father examines GCSE Maths, his mother marks Art & Design for GCSEs and A-levels, and his brother serves as Director of Studies at a West London college. Living in East London with his wife, seven-year-old son and their small Pomeranian, Ash understands the pressures local families face when supporting their children's education. After graduating from UCL with a Master's in Electronic Engineering, he built a successful corporate career culminating in seven years at Global Blue managing accounts for luxury retailers like Burberry and Jimmy Choo, all whilst tutoring pupils for over 15 years on the side. In 2015, he chose to leave the corporate world entirely to commit his life to making a difference in pupils' educational journeys. Now managing Tutor Doctor across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring to local families. He personally conducts free consultations to understand each child's requirements, then carefully selects from his team of over 100 local tutors—using a thorough 12-step interview process—to ensure the right fit for each pupil's needs and personality.

We then match your child with one of our local tutors who fits their personality, learning style and subject needs. Lessons take place in your home in Buckhurst Hill or online at times that suit your family. Book your free consultation to get started.

Do your tutors follow the Essex curriculum and UK exams for students in Buckhurst Hill?

Yes. Our local tutors align tutoring to your child’s school curriculum in Essex and to UK exam requirements. For secondary students we teach the knowledge and exam techniques needed for GCSEs and A-Levels, following your school’s exam board and schemes of work. For primary pupils we build strong foundations in reading, writing and maths, and support SATs preparation when needed. We keep in touch with what your child is learning in class so tutoring reinforces classwork rather than running alongside it.

Can you help my Year 11 child improve their exam performance in Buckhurst Hill?

Yes. We create a focused plan to boost your child’s marks. Your tutor diagnoses gaps, sets clear weekly goals, and works on high-impact topics, past papers and exam technique. We also help your child build a realistic revision timetable and reduce exam nerves. Parents receive a session report after every lesson and regular reviews so you can see what is changing. With the right support, there is always time to make meaningful progress before important exams.

Do you support primary pupils and 11+ preparation in and around Buckhurst Hill?

Yes. We provide gentle, confidence-first support in Key Stages 1 and 2, including phonics, comprehension, spelling, number sense and problem solving. We can prepare Year 6 pupils for SATs. We also offer 11+ preparation in grammar school areas, covering English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning plus test technique. If you are unsure whether the 11+ applies to your family, ask us during your free consultation.

Can you accommodate students with special educational needs in Buckhurst Hill?

Yes. Many of our students have needs such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism or anxiety. One-to-one tutoring reduces classroom pressure and allows us to adapt pace, instructions and resources to how your child learns best. We agree simple routines, plan movement or brain breaks when helpful, and keep goals realistic. With your permission we can align with school strategies so everyone pulls in the same direction.

How do you match my child with the right local tutor in Buckhurst Hill?

Matching is at the heart of what we do. We look at subject goals, learning style, personality and schedule, then introduce a tutor who fits. Our local tutors know the area and local school expectations, which helps with relevance and rapport. We review the match after the first few sessions and stay involved throughout. If something is not quite right, we adjust quickly.

How do you track and report progress to parents in Buckhurst Hill?

You receive a written session report after every lesson outlining what was covered, wins, next steps and any homework. We set short targets and review them in regular check-ins so progress is visible. We look at classwork, mock-style questions and teacher feedback where available, as well as changes in confidence and study habits. As one Buckhurst Hill parent told us, In just a few months, weve seen such a change not only in my sons maths scores, but in his confidence and overall attitude toward school.

How are your tutors vetted and safeguarded?

All tutors go through a multi-stage interview and reference process. They are fully vetted and complete safeguarding training before working with students. We provide ongoing oversight, gather session reports after every lesson and remain your local point of contact. Tutor Doctor is also a proud member of The Tutors Association. Your childs safety and wellbeing come first.
