Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai is an East London parent who left a successful corporate career to focus on what he'd been doing alongside it for fifteen years: tutoring local pupils. Coming from a family of educators - his father examines GCSE mathematics, his mother examines Art & Design for GCSE and A-level, and his brother directs studies at a West London college - Ash understands that education isn't one-size-fits-all. His engineering degree from UCL and experience across multiple industries taught him the value of finding the right approach for each individual, something he now applies to matching pupils with tutors. Since launching his Tutor Doctor franchise in 2017, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, working with local schools, councils and care homes to support pupils from primary through to adult learning, including those with SEND. When families contact him, Ash personally conducts a free consultation to understand their child's needs and goals, then draws on his network of over 100 local tutors to find the right match for their personality and learning style.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does your process work for tutoring in Chigwell Civil Parish?

It starts with a free consultation with our local team at Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell. We listen to your child’s goals, school context and learning style, then agree clear targets.

What happens next:
– We carefully match your child with the right local tutor.
– Sessions are one-to-one in your home or online, scheduled at times that suit your family.
– The tutor builds a personalised plan that supports classwork and upcoming assessments.
– You receive a written session report after every lesson so you can see progress.
– We check in regularly and adjust the plan as school priorities change, for example before mocks or end-of-year exams.

Most families can get started quickly after the consultation. Book your free consultation to begin.

Do your local tutors align with the National Curriculum and exam boards used by schools in Chigwell and Essex?

Yes. Our local tutors work to the National Curriculum for England and follow the exam board specifications used by nearby schools, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR for GCSEs and A-Levels. For primary pupils, we build skills for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and support preparation for KS2 SATs where relevant.

For secondary pupils, we focus on:
– Curriculum content topic by topic.
– Exam technique, command words and mark schemes.
– Past-paper practice and targeted revision plans.

We support students who attend schools in Epping Forest District and nearby London boroughs such as Redbridge and Waltham Forest, so we are familiar with local expectations and timelines.

Which subjects and levels do you cover for students in Chigwell, from Chigwell Village to Grange Hill and Chigwell Row?

We provide one-to-one tuition from primary through to sixth form.

Typical areas we cover:
– Primary and KS3: reading, writing, spelling, phonics, English, maths and science.
– GCSE: English Language, English Literature, Maths, Combined Science and Triple Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Computer Science, Business, Spanish and French.
– A-Levels: Maths and Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language and Literature, plus selected humanities and social sciences.
– 11+ preparation in selective school areas only. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, ask us in your consultation.

If you do not see a subject listed, tell us what you need and we will advise.

Do you offer in-home and online one-to-one tutoring across Chigwell and nearby areas like Loughton and Buckhurst Hill?

We deliver one-to-one tutoring in your home across Chigwell Village, Grange Hill and Chigwell Row, and we also serve nearby areas including Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Lambourne, Woodford Bridge and Chingford. Online tutoring is available across the whole area and can be blended with in-home sessions.

What to expect:
– A consistent tutor who knows your child well.
– Lessons tailored to school topics and upcoming assessments.
– Interactive resources for online sessions, including shared whiteboards and file sharing.
– Flexible scheduling around clubs, travel and revision periods.

How will you track progress and keep parents in Chigwell informed?

We make progress visible and simple to follow:
– Baseline check: the tutor identifies strengths and gaps to set starting points.
– Personal plan: clear goals tied to the school syllabus or exam specification.
– Session reports: after every lesson you receive a written summary of what was covered, how your child did and any follow-up tasks.
– Regular reviews: our local team checks in, updates targets and adapts the plan for mocks, coursework deadlines and final exams.

This approach helps families see steady improvements in confidence and attainment over time.

Can you support students with special educational needs or those who have lost confidence in Chigwell Civil Parish?

Yes. Many families come to us because their child has lost confidence or learns differently. Our tutors tailor the pace, language and resources to the learner, and we can break tasks into smaller steps, use multi-sensory strategies and build positive study habits. We routinely support pupils with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and anxiety, and we always start from what works for the individual student.

We are happy to align with school targets and teacher feedback where helpful. Book a free consultation to talk through your child’s needs in confidence.

How are your tutors vetted and what safeguarding is in place in the United Kingdom?

Safety and quality are central to our service. Our tutors go through multi-stage interviews, references and an enhanced DBS check. They complete safeguarding training and follow Tutor Doctor’s safeguarding policies. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors’ Association, the UK’s professional body for tutoring.

You also have a dedicated local point of contact if you ever need support or want to discuss any aspect of your child’s tuition.

It is close to mocks or exams. How quickly can you start, and what if the tutor match is not quite right in Chigwell?

the mock exam period are peak times after Year 11 mock results, and we prioritise quick starts where possible. There is often still time to make a meaningful difference with focused revision, exam technique and past-paper practice.

If the match is not perfect, tell us. Our local team will review your feedback and rematch you promptly. The aim is simple: the right tutor, a clear plan and one-to-one support that starts working from the first session.
