Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai comes from a family of educators—his father examines GCSE Maths, his mother marks Art & Design for GCSEs and A-levels, and his brother serves as Director of Studies at a West London college. Living in East London with his wife, seven-year-old son and their small Pomeranian, Ash understands the pressures local families face when supporting their children's education. After graduating from UCL with a Master's in Electronic Engineering, he built a successful corporate career culminating in seven years at Global Blue managing accounts for luxury retailers like Burberry and Jimmy Choo, all whilst tutoring pupils for over 15 years on the side. In 2015, he chose to leave the corporate world entirely to commit his life to making a difference in pupils' educational journeys. Now managing Tutor Doctor across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring to local families. He personally conducts free consultations to understand each child's requirements, then carefully selects from his team of over 100 local tutors—using a thorough 12-step interview process—to ensure the right fit for each pupil's needs and personality.

How does your matching process work for tutoring in Chigwell, United Kingdom?

We begin with a free consultation to understand your child’s goals, personality, learning style and school context. Then we match them with one of our local tutors who fits both the subject needs and the way your child learns. Lessons are one-to-one, in your home or online, at times that suit your family. Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell supports families across Chigwell, Chigwell Row, Grange Hill, Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Woodford, South Woodford, Hainault, Barkingside, Fairlop, Clayhall, Debden, Abridge, Theydon Bois, Epping, Waltham Abbey, Ilford, Chingford and Collier Row. Given the high demand for tutoring in Chigwell, United Kingdom, we recommend booking your consultation early so we can get your child started as soon as possible.

Do your tutors follow the National Curriculum and local school expectations around Chigwell?

Yes. Our tutoring aligns with the National Curriculum and with what your child’s school is teaching across Essex and nearby London boroughs. We take account of school term plans and use the same language, methods and assessment styles your child sees in class. For GCSEs and A-Levels, our local tutors tailor support to the specifications your school follows and build strong exam technique through targeted practice and revision planning.

Can you help with GCSE revision for Year 11 students in Chigwell?

Absolutely. After a quick consultation, we set a focused plan that targets the topics holding your child back, builds exam technique and confidence, and structures weekly revision. Sessions use past-paper style questions, clear feedback and manageable homework between lessons. Parents receive regular session reports so everyone can see what is improving and what comes next. With one-to-one support, students can make meaningful progress at any stage of their GCSE journey.

Do you help with the 11+ and other entrance exams in this area?

Yes, where selective entry applies. For families preparing for the 11+ and independent school assessments, our local tutors cover English, Maths, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and exam skills. We adjust preparation to the format relevant to your target schools and set a steady plan that balances practice with confidence building. 11+ preparation is available in grammar school areas. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, ask us during your free consultation.

Can you support primary pupils, SEND and EAL learners in Chigwell?

Yes. We work with pupils at Key Stage 1 and 2 to build secure foundations in reading, writing and Maths, with a gentle, confidence-first approach. Our local tutors have experience adapting lessons for special educational needs and disabilities and for learners with English as an Additional Language. One-to-one tutoring removes classroom pressure and lets us teach at the right pace. We will also liaise with school staff if you would like us to, so support stays consistent.

How do you track progress and keep parents informed?

You receive a detailed session report after every lesson that explains what was covered, what went well and what needs more practice. We set clear short-term and long-term goals and review them regularly, using school feedback and test scores to guide the plan. Your local Tutor Doctor team checks in with you, and we adjust the approach quickly if priorities change. Many parents tell us the clarity is a relief, for example, ‘My daughter is top of her class with the highest mark!’

Are your tutors vetted and safe to work with children?

Yes. Tutors go through a multi-stage selection process, including interviews and references, and they complete safeguarding training. We maintain ongoing oversight and are proud members of The Tutors’ Association. You also have a local point of contact if you ever need to discuss anything.

What makes Tutor Doctor different from just finding a tutor online in Chigwell?
