David Brassington - TD Tauton Frome North Yeovil
Tutor Doctor Taunton Frome North Yeovil

David Brassington

David Brassington's connection to Somerset education runs deep-he attended school in Taunton and returned after a successful career to help local pupils who struggle in traditional settings. With 30 years' experience spanning pharmaceutical sales, business management and the police, David retrained as a science teacher but discovered that the rigid structure of mainstream education didn't allow him to support pupils the way he wanted. The pandemic crystallised his decision to change direction, and in April 2023 he launched Tutor Doctor to serve families across Taunton, Frome and North Yeovil. Having already delivered over 5,000 hours of tutoring, David personally meets every family to understand their child's specific challenges, whether that's catching up after COVID disruptions, building confidence in maths, or preparing for GCSEs. He then personally matches them with the right tutor from his carefully selected team, all of whom are DBS-checked, ensuring families can trust both the educational quality and safety of the one-to-one support their child receives at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does one-to-one tutoring in Evercreech work with Tutor Doctor Taunton Frome North Yeovil?

We start with a free consultation. This is a relaxed conversation to understand your child’s goals, school context, confidence, and how they like to learn. We then create a simple plan that fits your priorities and the school year.

Next, we match your child with one of our local tutors who fits their subject needs and personality. Lessons are one-to-one, at home in Evercreech or online, and scheduled around your family. After every session you receive a written report, and our local team checks in to make sure everything stays on track. If we need to adjust the plan, we do.

Do you follow the national curriculum in Somerset and which subjects and year groups do you cover?

Yes. Our tutoring aligns with the national curriculum for primary and secondary schools in Somerset, and with current GCSE and A-Level specifications. We support:
– Primary and KS2, including reading, writing and maths
– KS3 foundation skills across English, maths and sciences
– GCSE preparation and revision, including exam technique
– A-Level subject mastery and exam strategy
– 11+ preparation where selective schools apply only

Subjects include Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science, History, Geography, Modern Languages, and primary literacy and numeracy. Alignment matters locally. Research from the University of Exeter reports that only 38% of disadvantaged 11-year-olds in the South West reach the expected standard in reading, writing and maths, compared with 44% nationally. Matching lessons to the curriculum helps close these gaps.

Can your local tutors support children who are anxious, behind or have special educational needs?

Yes. Every child learns differently. Our local tutors tailor the pace, break tasks into manageable steps, and focus on confidence first, then marks. We regularly support learners who are anxious about school, catching up after absence, or who are neurodivergent, including students with dyslexia or ADHD.

Parents in the area tell us this approach works. A local parent shared, “He’s made further academic progress in a short period of time and gained more confidence in himself.” We can also coordinate with school priorities you share with us, so tutoring complements classroom learning.

How do you match a tutor to my child and how soon can we start in Evercreech?

During your free consultation, we learn about your child’s goals, subjects, areas to strengthen, interests, and the type of person they work well with. We then recommend a tutor who fits both subject expertise and personality.

Start times are often quick once the match is agreed, although exact timing depends on your availability, the subject, and exam timelines. If you need support before mocks or final exams, tell us and we will prioritise accordingly. If the match is not perfect after the first session or two, we will review and find a better fit.

Do you tutor at home in Evercreech and nearby villages, or online?

Both. We offer in-home tutoring in Evercreech village and nearby areas including Stoney Stratton, Chesterblade, Bagborough, Pecking Mill and Southwood, as well as Shepton Mallet, Bruton, Castle Cary, Wincanton, Frome, Glastonbury, Street and Wells. Many families also choose online sessions for flexibility, which we can blend with in-person lessons. We serve families across the Somerset Council area, and we can support students who live near the borders with Wiltshire Council, Dorset Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council.

How do you measure progress and keep parents in Evercreech updated?

You get a written session report after every lesson that explains what was covered, how your child engaged, and suggested practice. We set clear goals at the start, review them regularly, and adjust the plan when needed. For exam years we use targeted revision checklists, retrieval practice, and past-paper questions to track readiness. Our local team checks in with you, so you always know how things are going and what is coming next.

My child's mock results were disappointing. Is it too late for effective tutoring in Evercreech?

It is not too late. We often see students move up by one or two GCSE marks between mocks and finals with focused one-to-one support. The key is a clear plan that targets the exact gaps shown in the mocks, regular practice with past papers, and strong exam technique.

We will prioritise high-impact topics, build a realistic revision timetable, and help manage nerves. Book a free consultation today so we can map out the weeks ahead and make every session count for your child in Evercreech.

How are your tutors vetted and what safeguarding measures are in place?

Tutor safety and professionalism are non-negotiable. Our tutors complete multi-stage interviews, provide references, and hold enhanced DBS checks. They complete safeguarding training before working with students. You have a dedicated local point of contact, session reports after every lesson, and proactive check-ins from our team. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors’ Association. If you ever have a concern, we act quickly and transparently.
