Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai is an East London parent who left a successful corporate career to focus on what he'd been doing alongside it for fifteen years: tutoring local pupils. Coming from a family of educators - his father examines GCSE mathematics, his mother examines Art & Design for GCSE and A-level, and his brother directs studies at a West London college - Ash understands that education isn't one-size-fits-all. His engineering degree from UCL and experience across multiple industries taught him the value of finding the right approach for each individual, something he now applies to matching pupils with tutors. Since launching his Tutor Doctor franchise in 2017, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, working with local schools, councils and care homes to support pupils from primary through to adult learning, including those with SEND. When families contact him, Ash personally conducts a free consultation to understand their child's needs and goals, then draws on his network of over 100 local tutors to find the right match for their personality and learning style.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you match my child with the right tutor in the London Borough of Waltham Forest?

It starts with a free consultation. We listen to your goals, recent school feedback and how your child learns best. We then recommend one of our local tutors who fits your child’s personality, subject needs and schedule. Your tutor delivers one-to-one lessons at home in Walthamstow, Leytonstone, Chingford and across the borough, or online. If the match is not quite right, we review quickly and rematch. The aim is a tutor your child connects with, so confidence grows and learning sticks.

How do you align tutoring with local schools and the curriculum in Waltham Forest?

Our local tutors teach to the National Curriculum and the exam specifications your child is working towards. At secondary, this usually means AQA, Edexcel or OCR. We review school targets, mock papers, teacher comments and recent classwork to find the gaps. For GCSEs we focus on exam technique, command words and mark schemes. For primary we support phonics, spelling, number fluency and reasoning. This keeps tutoring in step with what Waltham Forest schools expect, so progress shows up in class and in tests.

Do you support students with special educational needs or EAL in the London Borough of Waltham Forest?

Yes. We regularly support students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and anxiety, as well as pupils who speak English as an Additional Language. We adapt pace, use clear step-by-step methods, and build routines that reduce overload. For EAL learners we focus on vocabulary, reading for meaning and structured writing. We work alongside school plans where in place. Every programme is personalised, and sessions are one-to-one so your child can learn in a calm, supportive setting.

What subjects and exams do you cover for tutoring in the London Borough of Waltham Forest?

We cover primary to A-Level across the borough. Common requests include:
– Primary KS1 and KS2 English and Maths, including phonics and SATs.
– GCSE Maths, English Language and Literature, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, History, Geography, Spanish and French.
– A-Level Maths, Further Maths, the sciences, English, humanities and economics.
– 11+ preparation is available for selective areas only, for example nearby Redbridge grammar schools. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, ask us during the consultation.
All tuition is one-to-one at home or online and aligned with your child’s exam specification.

How do you track and report progress for families in Waltham Forest?

After every lesson you receive a brief session report that explains what was covered, how your child responded and any tasks to complete. We set clear goals, review them regularly and adjust the plan when needed. You have a dedicated local contact who checks in, so you always know how tutoring is going. This oversight helps keep everyone aligned, especially during key points like mock exam results, half-term revision and the exam season.

How are your tutors vetted and qualified in the London Borough of Waltham Forest?

Every tutor goes through a multi-stage selection process that includes interviews, reference checks and an enhanced DBS check. Tutors complete safeguarding training and follow our code of conduct. Many are qualified teachers or subject specialists with strong exam-board knowledge. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors’ Association in the UK. You benefit from a managed service with ongoing oversight, not just a name from a marketplace.

How soon can we start and can we choose in-home or online tutoring in Waltham Forest?

It depends on the subject and your availability. After your free consultation we aim to introduce a suitable tutor as soon as possible. Many families begin within days, although high-demand subjects may take longer. You can choose in-home tutoring across Walthamstow, Leyton, Leytonstone, Chingford, Highams Park and nearby areas, or fully online sessions. Some families mix both to fit clubs and travel.

How do I know if my child needs tutoring in the London Borough of Waltham Forest?

Look for common signs. Homework takes much longer than it should. Confidence has dipped. Mock results or teacher feedback suggest gaps. Your child is revising but marks are not improving. There has been time off school due to illness or a move. For primary pupils, reading fluency or number facts are not sticking. A Sutton Trust report found that 24% of 11 to 16 year-olds in England received tutoring in 2021 to 2022, which shows how normal extra support has become. If any of this sounds familiar, book a free consultation and we will outline a clear plan.
