Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai is an East London parent who left a successful corporate career to focus on what he'd been doing alongside it for fifteen years: tutoring local pupils. Coming from a family of educators - his father examines GCSE mathematics, his mother examines Art & Design for GCSE and A-level, and his brother directs studies at a West London college - Ash understands that education isn't one-size-fits-all. His engineering degree from UCL and experience across multiple industries taught him the value of finding the right approach for each individual, something he now applies to matching pupils with tutors. Since launching his Tutor Doctor franchise in 2017, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, working with local schools, councils and care homes to support pupils from primary through to adult learning, including those with SEND. When families contact him, Ash personally conducts a free consultation to understand their child's needs and goals, then draws on his network of over 100 local tutors to find the right match for their personality and learning style.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you align your tutoring with the UK curriculum in Loughton Civil Parish?

We tailor each plan to the National Curriculum for England and to what your child is studying at their school in Loughton. For primary, we support phonics, reading, writing and maths in line with Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, including preparation for Year 6 SATs. For secondary, our local tutors follow GCSE specifications and exam technique for the major boards, typically AQA, Edexcel and OCR. At A-Level, we match students with subject specialists who teach to the correct specification and use examiner-style marking and past papers. This alignment means your child revises the right topics in the right way at the right time.

Which subjects and levels do you cover for tutoring in Loughton Civil Parish and nearby areas like Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell and Chingford?

We provide one-to-one support at home or online across:
– Primary: English, reading, phonics, maths, reasoning, SATs preparation.
– Secondary (KS3): English, maths, science, languages and humanities to rebuild foundations.
– GCSE: English language and literature, maths, combined and triple science, biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography, Spanish, French and more. Revision plans are tailored by exam board.
– A-Level: Subject specialists for maths, further maths, sciences, English, economics, psychology and others, with a focus on higher-level content and exam technique.
– 11+ preparation is available for families applying to grammar schools in selective areas only. Ask us if this applies to your child.
We serve Loughton, Theydon Bois, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell, Debden, Epping, Waltham Abbey, Chingford and Abridge.

What happens after I enquire and how do you match my child with the right tutor?

It starts with a free consultation. We speak with you and your child to understand goals, learning style, school syllabus and any worries raised at parents’ evening or in recent reports. We then hand-pick a tutor whose subject expertise and personality fit your child. Your first one-to-one session is arranged at home or online at a time that suits your family. After every session you receive a report so you can see what was covered, how your child is progressing and what comes next. Your local Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell team stays in touch and adjusts the plan as needed.

How are your tutors vetted and what safeguarding do you have in place?

All tutors go through multi-stage interviews, reference checks and an enhanced DBS check. They complete safeguarding training and follow our safeguarding policies. We are proud members of The Tutors’ Association. If you ever have a concern, you have a named local contact who will act quickly. Safeguarding is central to how we work with families.

How do you track progress and keep parents in Loughton informed?

You receive a written session report after every lesson that explains the topics covered, strengths, gaps and the homework or practice set. We set clear goals, for example moving from insecure to secure on key GCSE topics or meeting the expected standard at KS2. We use quiz checks, school assessments and past-paper questions from the correct board to measure improvement. Your local team also schedules regular check-ins so we can adjust pace, materials and the revision plan as your child grows in confidence.

Can you support students with special educational needs or low confidence?

Yes. Many of our tutors have experience supporting students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism and anxiety, as well as pupils who have fallen behind after illness or a difficult transition. We start by rebuilding confidence, then layer skills step-by-step with clear routines and resources that suit the student. One-to-one at home or online removes classroom pressure and lets your child learn at their own pace. We can also align tuition with classroom topics so learning feels consistent.

My child's GCSE mock results were disappointing. What can you do before the summer exams?

There is usually time to make a meaningful difference. We review the mock paper by question type, identify the high-yield topics for your child and the exact requirements of their exam board. We then build a focused revision plan that covers content gaps, exam technique, timing and confidence with mark schemes. Sessions include targeted practice and weekly past-paper questions, and we share quick wins such as formula recall or structure for 6- and 9-mark responses. Parents in Loughton receive session reports after every lesson so you can see progress towards realistic mark goals.

Do you offer in-home and online tutoring across Loughton Civil Parish and the Epping Forest District?

Yes. Our local tutors can come to your home in Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell, Theydon Bois, Debden, Epping, Waltham Abbey, Chingford and Abridge, or we can teach online if that suits your schedule. Many families choose weekly sessions and increase frequency in the run-up to SATs, GCSEs or A-Levels. Book a free consultation and we will recommend a plan that fits your child’s goals and your family diary.
