Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai comes from a family of educators—his father examines GCSE Maths, his mother marks Art & Design for GCSEs and A-levels, and his brother serves as Director of Studies at a West London college. Living in East London with his wife, seven-year-old son and their small Pomeranian, Ash understands the pressures local families face when supporting their children's education. After graduating from UCL with a Master's in Electronic Engineering, he built a successful corporate career culminating in seven years at Global Blue managing accounts for luxury retailers like Burberry and Jimmy Choo, all whilst tutoring pupils for over 15 years on the side. In 2015, he chose to leave the corporate world entirely to commit his life to making a difference in pupils' educational journeys. Now managing Tutor Doctor across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring to local families. He personally conducts free consultations to understand each child's requirements, then carefully selects from his team of over 100 local tutors—using a thorough 12-step interview process—to ensure the right fit for each pupil's needs and personality.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Tutor Doctor for tutoring in Loughton, United Kingdom and nearby areas like Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell, Theydon Bois, Chingford and Epping?

We combine one-to-one, personalised tutoring with a truly local service. Our local tutors know the National Curriculum and the pressures in Essex schools such as Davenant Foundation School, Roding Valley High School and primaries along Loughton High Road. You get in-home or online lessons that fit your schedule, a tutor chosen to match your child’s goals and learning style, and clear session reports after every lesson. We are proud members of The Tutors’ Association and Tutor Doctor has delivered over 1.3 million tutoring sessions across the UK. A Loughton parent told us their son is engaged and looks forward to sessions. Start with a free consultation so we can learn about your child and build a plan.

How do you match my child with the right tutor in Loughton?

It starts with a free, no obligation consultation. We listen to what is going well and where support is needed, for example SATs preparation, GCSE Maths or English, or A-Level exam technique. We consider your child’s school, year group, learning style, interests and personality. We then recommend a tutor with the right subject expertise and approach. If the fit is not quite right, we will rematch quickly. The aim is a tutor your child will click with so confidence grows first and marks follow.

Do you follow the local curriculum and exam boards used by schools in Loughton, United Kingdom?

Yes. Our tutoring aligns with the National Curriculum for England and with the exam boards your child’s school uses, typically AQA, Edexcel or OCR for GCSEs and A-Levels. For primary pupils we prepare for Key Stage 2, including Year 6 SATs. For secondary we build knowledge, revision habits and exam technique around current schemes of work and upcoming assessments, including GCSE mocks and finals. We adapt our plan to teacher feedback and school reports so support stays tightly focused.

Do you offer one-to-one tutoring at home in Loughton and online, and how does scheduling work?

Yes. We provide one-to-one tutoring in your Loughton home or online across Loughton, Buckhurst Hill, Chigwell, Theydon Bois, Chingford and Epping. We arrange sessions at times that suit your family, including after school, evenings and weekends. Frequency and session length depend on goals, school deadlines and how your child learns best. We agree a plan with you during the consultation and keep it flexible.

Which subjects and exams do you cover in Loughton, including GCSEs, A-Levels, Year 6 SATs and the 11+?

We cover core and extended subjects across primary and secondary. This includes Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, combined science, languages and humanities. We support Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4, Year 6 SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels. We also offer entrance exam preparation for the 11+ and independent school exams where relevant. The 11+ applies only in selective areas, so ask us about the format that applies to your target schools. We tailor every plan to your child’s current syllabus and assessment dates.

How do you track progress and keep parents in the loop?

You receive a written session report after every lesson. It summarises what was covered, how your child engaged, any practice tasks set and the next steps. We check in with you regularly and adjust the plan as school topics, mocks or predicted marks change. This transparency helps you see steady gains in confidence and understanding, and it keeps everyone aligned before key milestones like Year 6 SATs or GCSEs.

Can you support students with special educational needs or low confidence in Loughton?

Yes. We work with students who are neurodivergent or who have additional learning needs, as well as pupils whose confidence has dipped after a difficult term or a change of school. Our local tutors use clear explanations, structured steps and varied resources to suit each learner. We build routine, reduce overwhelm and celebrate small wins. Many families tell us their child starts to enjoy learning again, which is often the turning point.

How are your tutors vetted and what safeguarding steps do you take?

All tutors go through a multi-stage selection process, including interviews and reference checks. Tutors complete safeguarding training and follow UK best practice. You have a dedicated local contact at Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell if you ever need support. Lessons can take place with a parent or carer at home, or online, depending on what you prefer.
