Yes. In Buckinghamshire we support pupils sitting the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test, often called the 11+. The test is set by GL Assessment and is multiple choice. It covers Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Mathematics. Buckinghamshire pupils are usually entered automatically, and the typical qualifying age-standardised score is 121. Our local tutors teach the question types, timing, problem solving, vocabulary and arithmetic skills that feature in the test, as well as exam technique and practice under timed conditions. For GCSEs and A-Levels, our tutors teach to the specifications your school follows. We focus on building secure knowledge, exam technique, past-paper practice, and a realistic revision plan so students know how to turn effort into marks.

Yes. Every child learns differently. Our local tutors tailor lessons to the student’s pace and needs, break tasks into manageable steps, use multi-sensory methods where helpful and keep feedback positive and specific. We regularly work with students who have ADHD, dyslexia, autism or anxiety, and we focus first on rebuilding confidence and enjoyment. Parents tell us this is often the turning point that leads to better marks.
You receive a written session report after every lesson that explains what was covered, how your child did and what comes next. We set clear goals at the start, then measure progress through low-stakes quizzes, past-paper questions, mini mocks and teacher feedback where available. We review the plan regularly and adjust quickly if priorities change. Independent UK evidence from the Education Endowment Foundation reports that one-to-one tuition typically delivers around five additional months of progress over a school year. While we do not guarantee results, this is why focused one-to-one support is so powerful, especially in the run-up to the 11+, GCSEs and A-Levels.
All tutors go through multi-stage interviews, reference and qualification checks, and must hold an enhanced DBS check. They complete safeguarding training and work under ongoing local oversight, with session reports filed after every lesson. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors’ Association. For in-home sessions we recommend a parent or carer is present in the house, and our online lessons follow strict safeguarding guidelines.
