Frequently Asked Questions

How does your process work for tutoring in Cambridgeshire?

It starts with a free consultation. We speak with you and your child to understand goals, current marks, school feedback, learning style, interests and schedule. We then hand-pick one of our local tutors who is a good fit for your child’s subject needs and personality. Tuition takes place one-to-one in your home or online, anywhere in Cambridgeshire. After every session you receive a written progress report. We check in regularly to review targets and adjust the plan so your child keeps moving forward.

Do your tutors follow the local curriculum and exam requirements in Cambridgeshire?

Yes. Our local tutors teach to the National Curriculum and the exam board specifications used by your child’s school for GCSEs and A-Levels. We build plans around school topics, homework, mock exam feedback and upcoming assessments. For Year 11, we align with the Cambridgeshire school year, including the mock results window and half-term revision. England-wide evidence shows that one-to-one tutoring can accelerate learning by around five months, so timely, curriculum-aligned support makes a real difference.

Which subjects and year groups do you cover across Cambridgeshire?

We support primary, secondary and sixth form students:
– Primary (KS1 and KS2): phonics, reading, writing, spelling, maths and SATs preparation.
– KS3: English, maths, science and study skills to build strong foundations before GCSEs.
– GCSE: English language and literature, maths, combined and triple science, biology, chemistry, physics, history, geography and modern languages.
– A-Level: subject specialists for core subjects and exam technique.
We also offer 11+ preparation where applicable in selective areas only. If you are unsure whether this applies to your family, ask us in your free consultation.

Can you help with GCSE and A-Level revision in Cambridgeshire?

Absolutely. We begin with a short diagnostic to find gaps, then focus on high-impact topics, past-paper practice, mark scheme understanding and timing. Many families contact us after mock exam results. There is usually still time to make meaningful progress ahead of the summer exams. Local families have seen results improve, for example a student moving to a Grade 6 in English. Sessions are one-to-one, targeted and include clear revision tasks between lessons. You receive a progress report after every session so you can see what was covered and what is next.

How do you support students with special educational needs or learning differences in Cambridgeshire?

We tailor tutoring to the learner. Our tutors use clear, step-by-step teaching, scaffolded tasks, visual supports and multi-sensory techniques where helpful. We set short, achievable goals to build confidence first, then extend challenge. We work with information from school, such as Individual Education Plans and teacher feedback, to keep strategies consistent. Many parents tell us their child is more engaged and independent once the right match and approach are in place. If you would like to discuss a specific need, we will talk it through in the free consultation and design a plan that fits.

How will I know my child is making progress with tutoring in Cambridgeshire?

You will receive a written session report after every lesson. Reports summarise what was covered, how your child did, any hurdles and specific next steps. We agree measurable goals at the start, for example moving from Grade 3 to Grade 5 in maths, improving reading comprehension scores or mastering key A-Level topics. We check in with you regularly and adjust the plan in line with school assessments, mock results and teacher feedback.

Are your tutors vetted and is safeguarding in place?

Yes. Every tutor goes through multi-stage interviews, reference checks and an enhanced DBS check. Tutors receive safeguarding training and follow Tutor Doctor’s code of conduct. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors’ Association. You also have a local point of contact at Tutor Doctor Cambridge who oversees the match, monitors session reports and is available if anything needs changing.

Do you cover my area in Cambridgeshire and nearby?

Yes. We provide one-to-one tutoring in homes and online across Cambridgeshire, including Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon, St Neots, St Ives, Godmanchester, Wisbech, March, Chatteris, Whittlesey, Littleport, Ramsey, Little Paxton, Warboys, Burwell, Sutton, Cheveley, Girton, Histon, Impington, Comberton, Haslingfield, Fulbourn, Harston, Waterbeach, Sawston, Cottenham, Bottisham, Duxford, Swavesey, Milton, Papworth Everard, Stretham, Earith, Royston, Hemingford Grey, Newmarket, Soham, Saffron Walden, Gamlingay, Needingworth, Haverhill, Exning, Great Shelford, Coton, Great Abington and Hildersham. If your town is not listed, please ask during your free consultation.
