Ash Obhrai
Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell

Ash Obhrai

Ash Obhrai comes from a family of educators—his father examines GCSE Maths, his mother marks Art & Design for GCSEs and A-levels, and his brother serves as Director of Studies at a West London college. Living in East London with his wife, seven-year-old son and their small Pomeranian, Ash understands the pressures local families face when supporting their children's education. After graduating from UCL with a Master's in Electronic Engineering, he built a successful corporate career culminating in seven years at Global Blue managing accounts for luxury retailers like Burberry and Jimmy Choo, all whilst tutoring pupils for over 15 years on the side. In 2015, he chose to leave the corporate world entirely to commit his life to making a difference in pupils' educational journeys. Now managing Tutor Doctor across Wanstead, Loughton, Chingford and Chigwell, Ash has delivered over 20,000 hours of one-to-one tutoring to local families. He personally conducts free consultations to understand each child's requirements, then carefully selects from his team of over 100 local tutors—using a thorough 12-step interview process—to ensure the right fit for each pupil's needs and personality.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does your matching and set-up process work for tutoring in Epping, United Kingdom?

It starts with a free consultation with Tutor Doctor Wanstead Loughton Chingford Chigwell. We listen to your childs goals, current performance, learning style and exam board. We then hand-pick one of our local tutors who fits on subject expertise and personality. Your tutor delivers one-to-one tuition at home or online, scheduled around your family. After each session you receive a written progress report. Your local Tutor Doctor team stays in touch to review progress and adjust the plan as needed. We are part of a national network that has delivered over 1.3 million tutoring sessions, while giving you a single local point of contact.

Do you follow the UK curriculum and exam boards used by schools in Epping and Essex?

Yes. Our tutoring aligns with the National Curriculum from Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 5, including GCSEs and A-Levels. We teach to your childs specific exam board, for example AQA, Edexcel or OCR, and focus on syllabus content, exam technique, command words and mark schemes. For GCSE and A-Level students in Epping, United Kingdom we make structured use of past papers, targeted revision and topic-by-topic gap closing so classroom learning and tutoring work together.

What subjects and levels do you cover for tutoring in Epping, United Kingdom?

We support most core and popular subjects across primary, secondary, GCSE and A-Level: – Primary and KS2: phonics, reading, writing, spelling, grammar, Maths, SATs preparation – KS3: English, Maths, Science, languages and humanities to build strong foundations – GCSE 9 to 1: Maths, English Language and Literature, Combined Science and Triple Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Spanish, French and more – A-Levels: Maths and Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Economics, Psychology and others We also offer 11+ preparation where relevant to selective areas. If grammar schools are not in your area, we focus on KS2 confidence and SATs. Tell us what your child needs in the free consultation and we will advise.

Can you help if my child has special educational needs or uses English as an Additional Language?

Yes. We regularly support students with dyslexia, ADHD, autistic spectrum conditions and speech, language and communication needs, as well as learners who are building proficiency in English. Local schools like Epping St Johns highlight these profiles, so our tutors adapt teaching methods to suit. What this looks like: – Step-by-step explanations, scaffolded tasks and multisensory techniques – Clear routines, short focused activities and visual supports – Explicit vocabulary, reading comprehension and structured writing support for EAL learners Research in England shows that English proficiency strongly affects EAL attainment, so targeted one-to-one support can make a real difference. If helpful, we can align with strategies set by your schools SENCo.

How do you measure progress and keep parents in Epping informed?

We set clear goals after a baseline review, then track both confidence and curriculum mastery. After every lesson you receive a session report summarising what was covered, what went well and next steps. We use short quizzes, homework review and past-paper questions to evidence progress, and we check in with you regularly to refine the plan. A local parent told us their child’s marks rose from a D to an A after tailored sessions. While every student is different, this is the kind of change targeted tutoring can unlock. Across England, around one in four pupils receive tutoring through their school, which shows how common and effective timely support has become.

Is it too late to start tutoring in Year 11 in Epping, and how quickly can we begin?

It is almost never too late. We often begin working with Year 11 students and focus on the highest impact topics, exam technique and timed practice. Start times vary by subject and availability. In many cases we can begin quickly once we have completed the free consultation and confirmed the right tutor. Get in touch and we will advise on a realistic plan for your child’s needs.

How are your tutors vetted and qualified?

Our tutors go through a multi-stage selection process that includes interviews, reference checks, subject knowledge screening and safeguarding training. All tutors are fully vetted. We match tutors by expertise and by fit with your child. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors Association, and you have a local team monitoring quality through regular check-ins and session reports.
