Matt Lynch
Tutor Doctor Oxford Kidlington

Matt Lynch

Matt Lynch's path to running Tutor Doctor Oxford Kidlington began with a deeply personal experience - when his eldest daughter needed tutoring support, their first tutor told her she was unlikely to pass her exams. Determined to find better support, Matt Lynch found a second tutor who transformed his daughter's learning experience through patience and encouragement, helping her not only pass but develop a lasting interest in her studies. This experience convinced him that families needed a better way to find the right educational support, leading him to establish his Oxford Kidlington franchise in 2021. With a professional background that includes strategic partnerships and work with the London Early Years Foundation, Matt Lynch brings both business expertise and an understanding of educational needs to his role. As the franchise's Designated Safeguarding Lead, he ensures all tutors are DBS-checked and properly trained. Matt Lynch personally meets with each family for an initial consultation to understand their child's unique circumstances, then uses his matching system to pair them with a tutor suited to both their academic needs and personality, providing ongoing support through regular session reports and consistent communication throughout the learning journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you match my child with the right tutor in Oxford City?

We start with a free consultation with your family. We learn about your child’s goals, year group, exam targets, learning style and personality. We then hand-pick a tutor with the right subject expertise and approach. The first session can usually be arranged quickly at home or online. Your local Tutor Doctor Oxford Kidlington team stays involved, checks in regularly and reviews session reports after every lesson. If the fit is not perfect, we will rematch. It is one-to-one, personalised support that is built around your child and your schedule.

Do you follow the local curriculum and exam boards for schools in Oxford City?

Yes. Our local tutors plan lessons that align with the National Curriculum and the exam boards used across Oxfordshire, such as AQA, Edexcel and OCR. For primary pupils we support KS1 and KS2 learning and SATs preparation. For secondary students we cover GCSE content, revision and exam technique. For sixth form we follow the current A-Level specifications. We also tie tutoring to your child’s classwork, set texts and teacher feedback so that each session connects directly with what they are learning at school. Oxford City Council data shows that 59% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at Key Stage 2, compared with 64% nationally, which is why targeted, curriculum-aligned tutoring in Oxford City can make a real difference.

Which subjects and levels do you tutor in Oxford City?

We cover a wide range of subjects from primary to A-Level:
– Primary and KS3: English, reading, writing, phonics, Maths, Science and study skills
– KS2 SATs preparation
– 11+ preparation in selective areas only. Ask us if this applies to you
– GCSE: Maths, English Language, English Literature, Combined Science and Triple Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, French, Spanish, German, Computer Science and more
– A-Level: Maths and Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, History, Geography, Economics, Psychology and other key subjects
If you do not see a subject listed, ask during your free consultation. We will let you know what is possible.

Do you offer in-home and online tutoring in Oxford City and nearby areas?

Yes. We provide one-to-one tutoring in your home or online across Oxford City and the surrounding area. In Oxford this includes Summertown, Jericho, Headington, Marston, Botley, Hinksey, Iffley, Cowley, Barton, Littlemore, Blackbird Leys, Rose Hill and Kennington. Nearby, we also serve Kidlington, Yarnton, Eynsham, Abingdon, Woodstock, Radley, Wheatley, Bicester, Witney, Didcot, Wallingford, Thame, Chalgrove, Benson and Carterton. Online sessions use secure tools with an interactive whiteboard and shared resources, so students can learn effectively from anywhere.

How do you track and report progress during tutoring in Oxford City?

We agree clear goals at the start, based on school targets and any recent assessments or mock results. After every session, your tutor submits a report that shows what was covered, what went well and next steps. Your local Tutor Doctor Oxford Kidlington team reviews these reports and checks in with you regularly. We adjust the plan as needed, focus on weak spots and prepare for key dates like mocks, SATs, GCSEs and A-Levels. Many families tell us this oversight is what sets us apart. One local parent shared that their Year 13 achieved 90% in Maths this past term.

Can you support students with special educational needs or English as an Additional Language in Oxford City?

Yes. Our local tutors are experienced in adapting lessons for students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism and anxiety, as well as for learners who use English as an Additional Language. We tailor pace, resources and strategies to your child. For EAL learners we focus on vocabulary, comprehension and academic language so they can access the full curriculum. If you have an Individual Education Plan or EHCP targets, we can build these into the tutoring plan you share with us. Progress is measured through regular session reports and review meetings with you.

When is the best time to start tutoring for GCSEs or A-Levels in Oxford City?

The best time to start is as soon as you notice your child could benefit from extra support. For Year 11, the period after mock exam results is crucial. With focused one-to-one support and exam-specific practice, students often make significant gains before the exam season. Year 10 is ideal for building strong foundations so Year 11 feels manageable. The school holidays are a key revision window for GCSEs and A-Levels. For primary, earlier support is kinder and more effective than last-minute pressure. Book a free consultation with Tutor Doctor Oxford Kidlington and we will create a plan that fits your timeline.

How are tutors vetted and what safeguarding is in place?

Every tutor goes through a multi-stage screening that includes interviews, reference checks, subject expertise checks and an enhanced DBS check. Tutors complete safeguarding training and follow our safeguarding policies. Tutor Doctor is a proud member of The Tutors’ Association. Your local team provides ongoing oversight, reviews session reports and is on hand if anything needs to change.
